Simple and Free Typing Tutor to Learn Basic Typing Skills
When it comes to perfecting a computer, one of the very first things that you need to master is your typing skills. And to help you master these typing needs, an independent software development company created an application called Kiran’s Typing Tutor.
This application stands out from most because it uses scientific methods to teach typing skills. It also stands out from the rest because it is a 100 percent FREE application that you can download from various websites.
The typing tutor market is a very crowded market, so today we will go through Kiran’s Typing Tutor to see if it can stand its ground in such a competitive market.
Installing KIRAN’S Typing Tutor
Thankfully, downloading and installing Kiran’s Typing Tutor is a fairly easy process. While installing, there are no special or complicated options that you will need to set or configure, and that is what makes the installation process quick, easy, and painless. Once you have initially downloaded the small file, you can have the application running on your laptop or desktop in no time flat. Download here for free.
This program is supported by all versions of Windows, from Windows 98 all the way up to the brand new Windows 8. And unlike many other freeware programs that you download, there is no malware or adware that is bundled in with the download, and there are no annoying toolbars that automatically get installed onto your favorite web browser.
KIRAN’S Typing Tutor Interface
The interface that comes with Kiran’s Typing Tutor is not visually appealing or impressive, to say the least.
While on the initial page, when you are hovering your mouse over some of the clickable options, a typing sound is played through your speaker. While cute at first, this typing noise can get quite annoying very quickly, especially if you are taking time to just explore the menu. (This can be turned off in the option menu though.)
The visuals of the interface are also quite tacky, and it is not very polished. Overall, you get six menu choices, separate from the settings page, which comes with a couple more options. All of the options presented do not really come with much explanation, and there are no stats or special guides that are available for you to view or peruse.
Essentially, this interface is quite basic and plain, and at times, it seems like it was put together very fast and hastily. Usually, this is something you can get past, but unfortunately, this un-cohesiveness will affect the usefulness of the software. This means that a simple task in the program can become quite difficult to complete.
Pros and Cons of KIRAN’S Typing Tutor
As we mentioned before, Kiran’s Typing Tutor is completely free for you to download and use. Free typing instructor programs are very rare to find, and even the paid ones can cost quite a bit of money for you to purchase. Though it is not the best application, it can prove to be quite useful for some people who are looking for basic instruction on how to improve their typing capabilities.
Unfortunately, that is where the good ends for the program. Typically, a computer typing instructor program provides a great guide that is full of tests, quizzes, and statistics that can help you improve in the future and track your progress. Kiran’s Typing Tutor provides no options or features even remotely close to that. Once you have the application installed, you are pretty much on your own.
The overall quality (and quantity) of the lessons, quizzes and tests are well below the standard of all the other typing programs. Instead of alternating between practice sessions and new lessons, the software just teaches extremely short lessons, and then moves on to the next lesson.
“Practice makes perfect” is a common practice among those who are trying to learn something new or improve on something, but this program offers no time or way for you to practice what you have learned. As a result, the retention of lessons is extremely low in comparison to other typing tutors.
In addition to that, the software often crashes randomly and it slows down considerable at various moments for no apparent reason.
There is no doubt that Kiran’s Typing Tutor is an application that is subpar to so many of the other typing tutors that are available out there. Other than the price, this program offers you nothing except a free typing program.
If you are serious about learning to type or improving your typing skills, it is suggested that you invest in a program such as Typesy Typing, TypingMaster Pro or Ten Thumbs Typing Tutor. The investment is worth it and your typing will be much better than if you focus your skills on Kiran’s Typing Tutor.
